Behind the creative name
Earth is our home planet and 3rd in our solar system. It was formed approximately 4.54 billion years ago and is the only known planet to support life. Earth has a diameter of 7,926 miles (12,760 km). The average distance from the Sun is 93 million miles (150 million km). Light from the Sun reaches Earth in 8 minutes. Technically, a complete rotation on its axis is 23.9 hours and takes 365.25 days to complete an orbit around the Sun. Earth has a rotational tilt on 23.4 degrees, which causes the seasons. Earth is the only planet in our solar system to have one moon and has many elements found on Earth due to collision billions of years ago from another celestial object which got stuck into Earth gravity and formed the moon. While the surface of Earth is suitable for life its core reaches temperatures as hot as 9,800°F (17,672°C). Earth is covered in 70% water and has an atmosphere of 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen and 1% other gases. Earth is the only planet with no Greek or Roman god name and has origins to the Germanic word, which simply means "the ground."
